For anything more complicated, we appreciate that assisted help starts at just $50. We think that is a fair entry point for tax preparation services that El Paso residents can access without leaving the house.
What we appreciated most is the year-round expert access. Their financial advisors take tax questions year-round. People we interviewed said they used the live chat feature months after filing to sort out tax issues for free.
Their File Now Pay Later option also stood out. We like that filing fees can be covered and paid back monthly. There is even a loan option to pay the IRS directly.

We think this is particularly useful for business owners because Romero steps in to keep the financial side of things organized and the IRS at bay.
Payroll is another area where they earn their keep. People we interviewed said Romero flagged changes that would have affected their payroll.
Romero also offers a convenient client portal. Customers rave about being able to send documents, access their account, and work with Romero entirely online.
This is genuinely useful for people outside El Paso or anyone who cannot make it into the office during business hours.
That said, filing completely through the portal takes between one and three weeks. Anyone with a deadline approaching should plan accordingly.

One service that stood out to us was their free ITIN application. For residents without a Social Security number, this is useful.

For new clients filing federal taxes, the cost starts at $49 for simple returns and caps at $149 regardless of how complicated the situation is.
What we love about Jackson Hewitt is the accountability built into how they work. They sign the return alongside the client and back it for life. If the maximum refund is not issued, they pay $100 back.
People we interviewed said that the guarantee gave them confidence to hand over their taxes.
Their range of services goes well beyond basic filing too. Self-employment taxes, crypto income, IRS audit representation, and tax extensions are all covered.
Others we spoke to said it was a relief not having to find a different office every time their tax situation got more complicated.
Our only gripe? Sometimes their office can get a bit full. We would recommend calling in advance before stopping by with tax paperwork.
