David MedinaIf you’ve ever gone clothes shopping, then you’ve probably been in the same situation I’ve been in. You see a jacket that looks really good in a shop display, you get one that’s roughly in your size, get back and try it on only to find that it doesn’t fit right.
And now you’re how many dollars out with a jacket that doesn’t look as good on you as you thought it would. It’s at times like this where I wish I knew how to pick up a sewing needle and do it myself, but since I can’t, I make sure to keep a tailor on speed dial.
Luckily, there’s no shortage of tailors in El Paso! It’s the city that popularized the zoot suit after all!
Once I ended up with too many pants that were either too short or too long, my friends helped me round up some tailors who could help me get that perfect fit. They might help you too, so check them out!
How much does it cost to hire a tailor in El Paso?
Getting your clothes altered by a tailor can set you back anywhere from $10 to $50, depending on the garment, the alteration you need, and any other materials and time needed to complete the alteration.

There’s never a bad reason to wear a suit, aside from the sweltering El Paso summer! It can still take a perfect fit to really rock one, though, which is why Men’s Wearhouse rose to popularity among the locals looking to get all spiffy.
As their name suggests, Men’s Wearhouse deals largely in men’s formalwear, ranging from fully tailored suits to more casual offerings like sport coats. It doesn’t hurt to get your polos and dress shirts tailored here too.
When we dropped by for a visit, their team’s professionalism got our attention immediately. They were quick to greet us when we stepped in, and even responded to our inquiries in detail.
Regulars we got to chat with echoed this sentiment. Quite a few praised the staff’s recommendations, especially when it came to how to wear their suits and the measurements. That’s pretty handy in our book for newbies to fashion!
That being said, on our own cursory look around, we found ourselves a little intimidated by the pricing of their products and services. We’d definitely keep a budget in mind before you get clothes tailored here, especially if you’re buying their clothes directly.
Lastly, customers also left us with some advice to settle in for a wait if you have to leave your clothes with them to get tailored. Deliveries from the store can take a while, so it’s best to get your clothes adjusted in advance!

Nothing can mess with a picture-perfect wedding shoot more than improperly tailored clothes. Lucky for us, we followed the recommendations of some local newlyweds around, and it led us right to David’s Bridal.
As their name implies, David’s Bridal deals in every garment fit for the big day, from bridal gowns to bridesmaid dresses and related accessories. If you’re on the younger side, they also offer prom dresses and tuxes!
When it came to their tailoring, we heard some pretty good things about their availability. The shop offered alteration services that could be booked and received on the very same day, which can come in handy if you have an event you urgently need to get to.
That being said, while alterations can also be requested in advance, a few customers let us know that this could result in delays and long waiting times. Customers reportedly had to wait a few days to receive their clothes again.
We do have to note that the cost of these services and their products was not very high, which came as a surprise to us. If you’re looking for something nice to wear or to get your clothes tailored without breaking the bank, they might be up your alley.
Finally, we’d recommend getting a ballpark on the measurements for your alterations. Some customers reported the measurements taken at the store being inaccurate in some cases, needing to be remedied and adjusted again as a result.

Tailoring isn’t just for formalwear, of course. We set our sights on finding tailors that were willing to accommodate even everyday wear without luxury prices, and to our surprise, our search turned up Nordstrom Rack!
The shop itself largely focuses on selling everyday wear for men, women, and children, a range that also extends to their tailoring. Their alterations services included everything from basic clothing repair to full dress alterations and adjustments.
One factor that stood out to us was their denim alteration services, which weren’t something we saw every day! Given the difficulty of denim as a material, having a regular tailor to patch up your jeans and jackets is really handy in our book.
We got to chat with a couple of regulars when we swung by for a visit, where we heard praise for their actual tailoring. They reportedly paid good attention to detail from the measurements to the materials, and they even offered same-day services!
On the other hand, we found ourselves having to ask for directions to reference from these regulars too. The actual tailoring team can be difficult to locate, and we spent an embarrassingly long time just moving through clothing aisles until we found them.
We do recommend braving the search, though, as some customers let us know that it could be difficult to contact the company given their busy phone lines.

Got a loved one who’s big into sports or really values their school memorabilia? Then Irene’s Embroidery Boutique might be up your alley. We’re suckers for letterman jackets, and when we heard of a tailor who does custom ones, we just had to drop by.
The boutique itself largely offered custom tailoring and embroidery for various sportswear. Letterman jackets were the main garment we noticed on our visit, but they also offered printing and tailoring for baseball caps.
Customers we got to chat with at this spot praised the sheer customization at the boutique. The boutique could accommodate anything from basic patches to fully embroidered designs based on reference images from the customer.
The pricing was also reasonable, from our own cursory look at the boutique and from customers we heard from. Their pricing was fixed and transparent too, helping plan a budget ahead of time.
That being said, the reference images are very much needed according to customers. The shop has very limited pre-made designs for their jackets and embroidery, so it’s best to come up with an idea of what you already want before your visit.
Finally, the shop’s focus on sportswear does mean that it does not support formalwear and even some everyday wear. Yeah, we were a little sad we couldn’t get our names embroidered on our blazers too.

Well, the name doesn’t get any clearer than this! If you’ve ever had to look for express alterations so you can make it to a last-minute event, then Alterations Express might already sound familiar.
The shop itself had a refreshingly wide range of tailoring services, even more than we thought they would! They offered tailoring and adjustment for casual and business wear alike, and even bridal tailoring.
What really got our attention was the uniform tailoring services, though. Given the varying regulations on uniforms, this can be really handy for folks in the workforce. Even military members will benefit a lot from this.
Their timeliness was a highlight among the customers we spoke to when we dropped by. The shop’s tailoring was reportedly pretty quick, but customers willing to wait can also drop off their clothes and pick them up at their earliest convenience as well.
That being said, some customers did mention that these could sometimes result in inaccurate measurements. In these cases, customers found themselves having to book another service and visit to readjust the newly altered clothes, which can be a hassle.
Finally, we do have to note that the cost for tailoring at the shop was pricier compared to other tailors, which can make it a little difficult to get alterations on the fly without having a budget beforehand.
