We liked the range of lessons offered at TR Music & Voice. Students can book sessions for vocals, guitar, piano, and drums.

Instructors are experienced. In fact, many of them have toured nationally and internationally. This gives them a real-world edge, bringing authenticity in the lessons.

According to the students, they found the lessons very engaging. Instruction is also tailored based on students’ interests, skill level, and pace.

We particularly find them solid for children. Many parents here confirmed that lessons were fun enough to encourage confidence and gradual progress.

Flexibility is also a major factor. Students can attend in person at the studio or have instructors come to them. Remote instruction is also available via webcam.

Many instructors are available, so it’s easy to book a pro based on your preferred time and date.

That said, instructor styles vary, as there isn’t a standardized approach to lessons. It may be best to book trial sessions to assess the right fit.

Pros

  • Experience instructors
  • Personalized teaching for all ages
  • In-studio, at-home, and online lessons
  • Wide variety of lessons
  • Affordable trial lessons
  • Covers multiple genres
  • Responsive and supportive
  • Recognized by music organizations

Cons

  • Instructor styles may vary
  • Certain lessons may be pricier

Fantastic teacher

“Having only studied piano for a brief amount of time before starting with Annie, I was shocked at how much I was able to advance in only 5 years. Annie is a fantastic teacher that pushes you while encouraging you-always making sure you reach your highest potential even if you don’t know yourself what that is.”

Makes it fun

“The best thing about Theresa is that she tailors her teaching style to her student, and she makes it fun for little kids. That’s the most important thing in my opinion. We wanted a piano teacher that could develop our daughters’ interest in music and make they fall in love with it, and that’s precisely what Theresa has done. Once they fall in love with it, they’ll motivate themselves to practice without you prompting. Theresa hit the nail on the head on this front.”

One of the best things about the El Paso Music Learning Center is that it’s ideal for all ages. They can even work with children with special needs, making everyone feel welcome and supported.

The approach to lessons also met our criteria. They have a unique Music Ladder System, which awards certificates for achievements.

Additionally, there are opportunities for performances. We see this as a solid way to hone technical skills and confidence.

The level of flexibility here is what we’re looking for. Lessons are available 6 days a week and can even be rescheduled if needed.

Students can book on a month-to-month basis. The good thing about this is that there are no long-term commitments or complicated contracts.

However, we do wish there were more options for single or weekly lessons.

The good side is that this means better affordability. Since there are no large upfront payments, students only need to pay a one-time $35 registration fee.

Pros

  • Wide range of lessons
  • University-education instructors
  • Flexible month-to-month lessons
  • Affordable pricing
  • Solid achievement recognition progress
  • Recital and performance opportunities
  • No complicated contracts

Cons

  • No option for single lessons
  • Occasional communication issues on inquiry

Makes students very happy

“My son is  21 yrs old and has autism. He loves music since he was very young. Going to his voice lessons makes him very happy. The staff are wonderful they make him feel welcome. I feel very comfortable in the nice waiting area. I also get to listen to Jazz while I’m waiting for him. Thank you El Paso Music Learning Corner. Music is the  Strongest form of magic. 🎶🎤”

We liked that the El Paso Conservatory of Music focuses on individualized attention. Through private classes and small group lessons, they personalize guidance for all skill levels.

Unlike most places, the conservatory is more fitting for those who want a more structured approach. They offer a pre-college certificate program, preparing students for advanced music education.

That means fees are relatively higher than most. But of course, the level of instruction is much more in-depth.

For instance, they cover theory, sight reading, and composition. We liked this range as it covers both artistic and technical growth.

The performance opportunities are some of the best in the city. Students have the chance to participate in concerts and operas.

In fact, some students even told us that they got to perform in Austria. Others have joined productions like Carmina Burana.

Apart from the usual program, the conservatory also offers intensive workshops and private lessons during the summer.

Pros

  • Highly qualified instructors
  • Comprehensive curriculum
  • Personalized attention
  • Local and international performance opportunities
  • Pre-college program
  • Adult classes available
  • Summer and intensive workshops available
  • Strong professional network

Cons

  • Tuition can be expensive
  • Less emphasis on casual learners

Helpful and outstanding results

“I started at the El Paso Conservatory of Music two years ago when I was a freshman in high school. Since then my knowledge in music has grown tremendously and I have developed a whole new understanding and view point in singing, and now I enjoy singing even more! The El Paso Conservatory of Music is continuing to help me grow as a musician and as a person. It’s the best place for any growing musician who plans on having music as a big part of their life in the future. It produces professional outstanding performers. I recommend this place to anyone who is passionate about music and is very serious about their musical career.”

Provided a solid foundation

“I attended the El Paso Conservatory of Music the very first year they opened all throughout high school. Those four years laid down a solid foundation for me in music. I took weekend classes as well as private piano, voice, and french horn lessons there and I excelled thanks to them. I still continue to play and sing and I use what they taught me on an everyday basis. I am an audio engineer and song writer in Nashville now, and all the lessons of dictation, theory, and musicality play a role in my recording and creating of music. I could not imagine where I would be without those lessons, I am truly grateful I was able to experience it. I would highly recommend the El Paso Conservatory of Music to anyone who is serious about being a musician, no matter what their musical goal is at the end.”

Desert Moon Music Academy offers a wide range of services. The best part is that they cater to beginners and advanced students.

We were impressed by the credibility of their instructors. All teachers hold university degrees in music and have extensive experience in their fields.

Experiences are tailored from the start, according to students. This is because each student is matched with an instructor who specializes in the style they’re interested in.

On top of that, instructors provide advice for real-life applications of music.

This is a major advantage, considering the good range of performance opportunities. Students can participate in at least 2 recitals per year and join festivals and competitions.

Lessons are available by appointment. But what makes them solid is that teachers can work around student schedules and provide online lessons via Zoom.

Unfortunately, we heard reports of disorganization and inconsistent teaching methods. Issues are, at least, rare.

Pros

  • University-trained instructors
  • Private and group lessons
  • Personalized instruction
  • Many performance opportunities
  • Affordable rates
  • Focuses on technique
  • Established local reputation

Cons

  • Minor issues or disorganization
  • Minor issues with inconsistent teaching

Comfortable and beautiful

“There’s truly no place like this school to feel like family and get the best music instructors in town. I approached Al a few months back telling him that I wanted to get better at singing so that I could propose to my, now fiancee. He also suggested that my awesome magical guitar instructor help me as well so that I could learn to play and sing at the same time.

Well after so many months of practice and learning, my guitar playing and singing got much better and my proposal went amazingly. Everything was beautiful and I know for a fact, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Al and Carlos. Thank you guys so much for all of your wonderful guidance and help.

If you’re looking for a school to take your children to learn an instrument or want to learn something for yourself, stop. Just pick up the phone and call Desert Moon Academy of the Arts. Trust me, this is the place you want to be!\”

5. Whiptail Music Studio

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Sunday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Whiptail has one of the most inclusive approaches to teaching we encountered. They can accommodate students with learning differences like ADHD.

To support this, lessons are personalized to individual students. There’s a strong emphasis on actual performances, too.

In fact, Whiptail offers a rehearsal space for solo artists and bands. This enables students to properly prepare for performances or slowly develop their skills.

What’s great is that there’s really solid improvement among students. Some of the students we interviewed went from beginner to intermediate in just a few months.

Part of this involves how patient and detail-oriented the instructors are. Musicianship is also prioritized above everything else, making lessons enjoyable.

Finally, another great plus is their trial lessons. Beginners can use this to get started easily without commitment.

On the other hand, we heard a few instances of instructor turnover, which disrupted the continuity of lessons. Other than this, there are no serious issues to note.

Pros

  • Wide range of lessons for all ages
  • Personalized instruction
  • Encourages musicianship
  • Supportive environment
  • Many performance opportunities
  • Free trial lesson
  • Rehearsal spaces for solo artists

Cons

  • Minor issues with instructor turnover
  • May require structured learning

Comprehensive lessons

“Coming to Whiptail Music was the best decision I could’ve made for myself as an adult. We all have busy lives and more than likely we live life with, undiagnosed and unmanaged ADHD. LOL. So, I love the fact that they get me, but also hold me accountable during practice. If you just want to sing this isn’t the place. Here you’ll learn how to sight read, read sheet music and even play some of the instruments. For the adults wanting to do singing pessons and never do it due to busy lives… this is the place to start and grow. Don’t cut yourselves short. Plus we need more adults for choir. Lol. The pictures are form their first recital at Sunset Heights Coffee.”

Very knowledgeable and encouraging

“This is the ABSOLUTE BEST music studio in the city! Adrian teaches both our kiddos piano and voice, and he is an excellent teacher. He is patient, kind, very knowledgeable, and he encourages our kids to do their best. At this studio they focus on children learning how to read and  play music before hitting the stage and a recording studio. It’s not about the flashy lights or becoming famous. It’s about learning an art form, first. This studio also encourages students to show off their talents through performances within different communities around town.”
