Walking out of an appointment with a shrug and a prescription that barely touches your pain is not what anyone wants from an orthopedic specialist.
I’ve heard so many stories of people being sent home with misdiagnosed fractures or handed pills that did little more than fill a bottle.
So when my dad’s arthritis was starting to seriously affect his daily life, I knew I couldn’t just trust anybody. I roped in my El Paso Insider team, and we searched the city for the best specialists.
If you or someone you know is also suffering from persistent knee and joint pain, here are the orthopedic specialists in El Paso who stood out after long nights of research, interviews, and polls!
How much does it cost to see an orthopedic specialist in El Paso?
It costs at least $100 to see an orthopedic specialist in El Paso. This price is just an estimate. The final cost will depend on the specialists’ fees and more.
1. El Paso Orthopedic Specialists

Address: 10555 Vista del Sol Dr Suite 200
Contact Details: +19155945925
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Wednesday – 8 AM to 5 PM
- Friday – 8 AM to 12 PM
El Paso Orthopedic Specialists combines advanced techniques—such as robotic-assisted hip replacements—with genuine attention to patient comfort and education.
Dr. Toribio Natividad and his team take time to explain not only what would happen during surgery but also what recovery would actually look like. One man who got a knee replacement really appreciated this, as he was very anxious during the consultation.
We also love how they personalize every treatment plan. One patient told us she appreciated how they addressed her osteoarthritis with a personalized plan that included viscosupplementation.
Another great thing about El Paso Orthopedic Specialists is that they provide their patients with a comprehensive rehab plan and guidance on preventing future flare-ups.
Their follow-up care is awesome too. One woman told us the staff called to check in post-op, and Dr. Natividad always squeezed her in for follow-ups to monitor progress.
That being said, the main drawback is that appointments book up fast, especially for new patients. One patient told us he waited almost a month for their first consult, but once in, the care made up for it.
Best Orthopedic Specialist for knees and shoulders
“The best Orthopedic Specialist for knees and shoulders in El Paso. I have seen several doctors for my knee and Dr. Natividad is the best!!! He went above and beyond!! I was going in for a shot and he saw my knee swollen and proceeded to remove the fluid from my knee, then gave me the shot I needed. My knee feels so much better!!! Other doctors have just dismissed me. Dr. Natividad took care of my knee!!! Thank you!!”

2. El Paso Orthopedic Spine Institute

Address: 1125 Texas Ave Suite Basement 0
Contact Details: +1 915-910-1351
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 5 PM
El Paso Orthopedic Spine Institute stood out to us for its focus on minimally invasive spine surgery and personalized rehab. Everything happens in one place, from injections to bigger surgeries and even rehab right on site.
A patient who had lumbar spinal fusion told us the staff walked him through every step, starting with the first MRI and all the way through to physical therapy after surgery.
We liked that the specialists here actually take the time to explain the differences between cervical disc replacement and traditional fusion. Disc replacement keeps the neck moving more naturally, while fusion locks two bones together so they heal as one.
Another patient who had a lumbar microdiscectomy said she was back on her feet in days, not weeks. She gave a lot of credit to the physical therapy team for helping her build strength at a pace that felt right.
The only real downside we heard about was the paperwork. One patient said insurance approvals took longer than expected, and she had to call twice just to get her pre-op instructions sorted out.
Bedside manner is great
After four Dr. visits and professional opinions from Doctors out in San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas, I decided to go with Dr. Zachary Lovato for my back surgery. From Day 1 he made sure all my concerns were addressed and made me feel at ease. He wasn’t like the other doctors who claimed I needed neck AND lower back surgery. He took a very conservative approach. Destiny and his surgical scheduling team worked tirelessly to get my back surgery approved from my health insurance after 4 years of agony. After the surgery, I was up and walking within 3 hours. His bedside manner is great before surgery and is very thorough with his surgical explanations. I highly recommend Dr Lovato! 😍

Did everything he could to help me
“I went to Dr. Dunn for carpal tunnel surgery. He made me feel really relaxed. He listened and was patient. My carpal tunnel issue was very painful because three fingers were numb due to the fact that I had waited way too long. It was so painful that I could hardly sleep at all. During this tine, Dr. Dunn did everything he could to help me be nore comfortable. Also, I was going through another medical concern which took many weeks. When that was past, Dr. Dunn was able to do my surgery for my carpal tunnel fairly quickly, and I am very thankful for him. He and his staff are great. I highly recommend Dr.Dunn and his practice. I can now sleep at night.”

3. Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso: Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation

Address: 4801 Alberta Ave
Contact Details: +1 915-215-5400
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 5 PM
Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso covers the whole spectrum, from the usual sprained ankles to rare cases like congenital hip dislocation and scoliosis.
Their surgeons aren’t just for adults. They’re just as at ease with kids. One parent mentioned the team caught her daughter’s limb length difference early, which made a big difference.
Another patient with a stubborn wrist fracture appreciated that the doctors didn’t push her straight into surgery. Instead, they tried custom splints and therapy first. She said it felt good to have real options.
We liked how much attention they give to follow-up and rehab. Since Texas Tech has on-site therapy, patients don’t have to scramble to figure out their own recovery plans.
One retired patient told us the clinic helped him manage knee arthritis with injections and bracing. They only brought up joint replacement when nothing else worked.
The only downside? Sometimes there’s a wait—up to 30 minutes on a busy day.
Best service ever
“Best service ever! Dr Alsharkawy and his team gave us my health back.”

4. Border City Orthopedics | Dr Edgar Fernandez Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Address: 1512 N Zaragoza Rd Blg C, Suite 3-4
Contact Details: +1 915-206-2120
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM
Border City Orthopedics is run by Dr. Edgar Fernandez, and what stood out to us was his hands-on approach with his patients. Dr. Fernandez has the surgical chops, but he’s also refreshingly direct and easy to talk to.
The clinic covers everything from simple joint replacements to the kind of bone repairs that make people wince at the thought.
One patient told us that Dr. Fernandez actually took the time to walk her through every non-surgical option—physical therapy, targeted injections, and even small tweaks to her daily routine. Surgery only came up after nothing else worked.
We also like how attentive he is to aftercare. Another patient recovering from a tough wrist fracture told us Dr. Fernandez called her himself after the operation to check in.
The only drawback is that it’s not always easy to book an appointment with them. One guy told us he had to call three times before he was able to speak with someone on the phone and book an initial appointment.
I’ve had zero problems
“Had my hip replaced about 8 months ago. I’ve had zero problems. His professionalism from initial consolation to follow-up was outstanding.”

5. Richard Westbrook MD

Address: 4646 N Mesa St, El Paso
Contact Details: +1 915-313-6300
Dr. Richard Westbrook is the kind of orthopedic surgeon who handles tricky cases where both bones and nerves play a role. For example, carpal tunnel syndrome or nerve injuries that mess with how a person’s joints move.
What stands out about his approach is how he takes the time to explain what’s actually happening inside the body. He shows his patients scans of their bones, and he doesn’t just stick to the textbook fixes.
We like that he looks for what will work best for his patient, taking their lifestyle and routine into account.
One patient said that after a shoulder replacement, he didn’t just hand over a painkiller and call it a day. He guided them through at-home rehab exercises to improve their shoulder mobility.
The only real con is that his clinic can run late, especially when it’s packed. One woman said she waited almost 30 minutes past her appointment time.
He listens, explains, and is so calm
“Dr Westbrook did the most perfect intense surgery on my spouse’s shoulder this month. He listens, explains, and is so calm. Always has a little smile. His personnel was also very helpful. So glad to have him as our Dr.”
- Marie Ledezma, Google Reviews
Was very thorough
“Dr. Westbrook was very thorough with our session and determend my course of action for my treatment. He did not advice N operation right away. We discussed all options that would be better than an operation right away. His nursing staff we also excellent too, in their performance in their duty. They got me in and out. Their was no long waiting at the reception area or in his waiting room. Now that was service. He does listen to your cause of pain and truly cares. Thank you.”
