Finding Comfort and Expertise: Best Oncologists in El Paso

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

  • Medical Qualifications: We closely evaluated the board certifications and specialized training of each leading physician. Ensuring the doctors have deep expertise in hematology and oncology helps guarantee you receive safe, accurate treatment.

  • Facility Accessibility: We looked closely at clinic locations and the physical ease of navigating the buildings. This factor is incredibly important for individuals dealing with mobility challenges or undergoing intense treatment regimens.

  • Patient Feedback: We carefully reviewed local patient testimonials to see how families rate their actual experiences. This helps us understand the quality of bedside manner and the helpfulness of the support staff.

  • Care Integration: We analyzed how well each clinic coordinates diagnostics and therapies under one roof. Having connected services helps minimize stressful commutes to separate facilities during your recovery.

A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, and finding the right medical team can make a real difference in treatment outcomes. You need advanced medical protocols and an oncologist who communicates clearly and guides you through each stage of care with confidence.

That journey often connects with other forms of support as well, including a mental health clinic for emotional support or home health care services to assist with recovery and ongoing treatment needs outside the hospital.

These can complement, but not replace, specialized oncology care.

To help with the most important step first, we reviewed leading cancer care providers to identify the best oncologists in El Paso. These practices stand out for their medical expertise, treatment options, and patient-focused approach within the local community.

They use advanced robotic surgery and highly targeted radiation tech, giving local families direct access to modern medical solutions.

When my close friend went through treatments here, the personalized care plan really helped lower her anxiety.

Finding a specialist with dual degrees in pharmacy and medicine provides an immense advantage when managing complex chemotherapy regimens.

Dr. Joshua M. Rodriguez holds both a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.). This allows him to understand intricate drug interactions at an incredibly deep level.

He’s triple board-certified, having completed his elite fellowship training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before bringing his talents back to his hometown.

A lot of local families we spoke with seem to value his respectful bedside manner and how carefully he approaches treatment decisions. It comes across as very detail-oriented care, especially for something as sensitive as chemotherapy management.

On the downside, his office sits in a highly congested older hospital district, which creates severe parking bottlenecks during peak hours.

The busy facility can also feel crowded, resulting in occasional administrative delays and scheduling hurdles.

Pros

  • Dual qualifications in medicine and advanced pharmacy
  • Triple board certifications covering multiple specialties
  • Exceptional regional patient ratings and reviews
  • Elite university fellowship training from UCLA

Cons

  • Congested parking in older hospital district
  • Busy clinic environment causing occasional delays
  • Potential physical accessibility limits for mobility issues

Customer Reviews

Dr.Rodriguez is an exceptional oncologist whose expertise and compassion make a difficult journey far more manageable. He takes time to explain complex information clearly, answer every question with patience, and offer a treatment plan tailored to both medical needs and personal circumstances. The care team is responsive and well-coordinated, and appointments always feel purposeful and respectful. I feel confident and supported under Dr. Rodriguez’s care—truly grateful to have him guiding my treatment.

The staff at the Texas Oncology is very kind and attentive to every patients needs. Tha patient navigation portal is a great tool to request medication refills and send messages to the staff. They normally respond within the same day. Dr. Rodriguez has great bedside manners and pays attention to my father’s concerns. He explains treatment plans throughly in order for my father and mother to understand the process. Thank you for all you do.

Dealing with specialized female reproductive cancers really calls for a very focused team, and Dr. J. Salvador Saldivar is often described as one of the key specialists leading that kind of care

Spero Women’s Oncology Center focuses exclusively on gynecologic cancers, which gives it a fairly narrow but deep clinical focus. Dr. Saldivar holds credentials as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), which tends to signal a strong surgical and academic background.

One thing that stood out from what we heard from a caregiver is how helpful the bilingual staff can be. They do a good job of breaking down complex treatment plans in a way that’s easier to understand.

The overall atmosphere is warm and emotionally supportive, but the physical setup isn’t perfect. Since the clinic sits inside large medical plazas, navigating multi-level parking garages can be physically exhausting for patients who are already feeling unwell.

The center is also popular, so wait times often run longer than scheduled.

Pros

  • Dedicated exclusively to specialized gynecologic oncology care
  • Fully bilingual physicians fluent in English and Spanish
  • Multiple geographic office locations across El Paso
  • Lead physician holds advanced surgical specialist credentials

Cons

  • Navigating multi-level hospital parking garages is difficult
  • Extended wait times past scheduled appointment hours

Customer Reviews

My visit to the SPERO Women’s Oncological Center In El Paso, Texas on January 7, 2025 was excellent as always. The staff and my doctor were caring and courteous and totally professional. My regularly scheduled check up went smoothly and quickly and my interactions with all the staff and my doctor were positive. I am always impressed with the Professional presentation of the staff and my doctor at the center and I enjoy my visits there.

Dr. Saldivar is an excellent surgeon. He explained everything clearly and intelligently. He is very up to date with new cancer research and studies. He is attentive and listens to his patients. I was very nervous about my surgery, but he helped me feel comfortable.  I respect that he is also a teacher and always has residents working with him.  The office staff is very nice and helpful, but I would have liked more communication from them when experiencing longer than normal wait times.  I would recommend this Center.   I’m very grateful to Dr. Saldivar and his staff.

4. CBMC Cancer Center

Website: http://nmcbmc.com/

Address: 211 Bartlett Dr. Ste 102, El Paso, TX 79912

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 – 5:00

Choosing a standalone neighborhood clinic can feel a lot more manageable than dealing with a large, crowded hospital setting.

CBMC Cancer Center leans into a more individualized, listening-first approach, especially for patients going through outpatient chemotherapy.

A lot of families also find it helpful to pair treatment with professional home health care services to support recovery at home. This can make the whole process feel less overwhelming day to day.

One clear advantage is the setting itself. You avoid the stress of navigating massive medical complexes, which can make appointments feel more straightforward and less exhausting.

That said, there’s no on-site Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since it operates strictly as an outpatient clinic. This means sudden emergencies would require transfer elsewhere.

It also only operates during daytime hours, so you don’t really have access to weekend side effects or urgent concerns outside its schedule.

Pros

  • Home-like office setting lowers patient anxiety
  • Extensive outpatient chemotherapy and immunotherapy options
  • Affiliated directly with major local hospital networks
  • Treats rare blood disorders and unique tumors

Cons

  • Closed completely on weekends and evenings
  • Limited geographically to the West Side area
  • No overnight inpatient beds or emergency setup

5. Las Palmas Medical Center

las-palmas-medical-center

Website: https://www.laspalmasdelsolhealthcare.com/specialties/oncology

Address: 1801 N Oregon St, El Paso, TX 79902

Contact: +19155211200

Hours: Available 24/7

Las Palmas Medical Center offers a pretty comprehensive setup, including a dedicated liver screening program and advanced diagnostic imaging that’s accredited by the American College of Radiology.

The system is clearly built for thorough, large-scale medical coordination rather than just isolated care.

Another clear advantage here is the 24/7 trauma facility. This means emergency access is always available, and that alone can feel like a major safety net.

But there are trade-offs that come with a system this large. Oncology services are split across different hospital campuses, so you may end up traveling across town depending on what procedure or specialist you need.

And like many major institutional systems, they operate under strict policies that fully restrict certain end-of-life care choices on-site. This can feel limiting for some patients and families navigating those decisions.

Pros

  • Direct partnership with national clinical research networks
  • Region’s only comprehensive early liver screening program
  • Fully accredited high-level diagnostic imaging technology
  • Multi-disciplinary team approach utilizes multiple specialists

Cons

  • Resources split between different hospital campuses
  • Rigid institutional constraints on end-of-life care
  • Busy hospital environment lacks intimate clinic feel

Customer Reviews

This was by far the most I’ve been satisfied with a hospital in years. From admitting me to discharge I felt like everyone involved in my stay were friendly, attentive, and caring. This hospital and its staff do not get enough credit. I am thankful for the care I received and would highly recommend the facility and its personnel to anyone looking for the best care for your procedures. Venessa was the greatest nurse that any patient could ask for while spending the night. Thank you for everything!

The staff at the hospital are great. They were very helpful and understanding. They accommodated me with what I would need. They give me my medication for my pain.

Thank you for everything you are great people. 😃😃😃👍👍👍 …
