The 5 Best Mental Health Clinics in El Paso for Genuine and Empathetic Support

best-mental-health-clinics-el-paso
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Linguistic Fit: We sought out clinics that had bilingual staff. Here, many residents are Hispanic or Latino, so language access is a baseline requirement for effective care.

Treatment Options: We specifically looked for clinics that provide options like medication management, psychiatric evaluation, and newer treatments like TMS or ketamine therapy for patients who have not responded to traditional methods.

Accessibility: We checked whether they offer telehealth and have convenient locations. We also prioritised those that accept flexible insurance options, including TRICARE, given El Paso’s large military population at Fort Bliss.

Breadth of Care: We verified whether these clinics could grow to meet patient needs rather than referring them elsewhere after one visit. We asked patients how they felt before and after their sessions.

According to Mental Health America, Texas ranked 44th in the nation for prevalence of mental health illnesses and access to quality care.

This means El Paso residents often find themselves facing a mental health system that is underfunded, culturally misaligned, and difficult to access.

Finding the right fit shouldn’t be another barrier. That’s why we researched, reviewed, and spoke with local patients to narrow it down to the best mental health clinics in El Paso genuinely worth your time.

How much does it cost to go to a mental health clinic in El Paso?

It costs at least $80 to get treatment at a mental health clinic in El Paso. This is just an estimate. The actual cost will depend on the kind of therapy and services needed.

Mind Forward Health Center is best for immigrants needing psychological evaluations and other mental health services in El Paso.

We’re impressed with their immigration evaluation work. Dr. Viridiana Ortiz, LCSW-S, brings over 11 years of experience to the table. She handles Extreme Hardship Waivers, VAWA, and more.

Her understanding of both the legal and emotional dimensions involved in these cases is impressive. Patients we interviewed also appreciate her thorough help with communicating with immigration agencies.

Beyond immigration services, Mind Forward offers individual therapy, family counseling, and marriage counseling. Services are available both in person and via telehealth, making care easier to access for busy families.

What stood out to us among their approaches is the ketamine-assisted therapy. It’s offered as an alternative to patients who have not improved with traditional treatments and are dealing with depression, anxiety, and trauma.

Their services are quite affordable too. Sessions with supervised master’s-level interns allow patients to access therapy at lower rates than many clinics in the area.

If you prefer working with a fully licensed therapist, we recommend reaching out to the clinic early to confirm availability before scheduling an appointment.

Pros

  • Bilingual
  • Immigrant evaluation work
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Marriage counseling
  • In-person and telehealth
  • Ketamine-assisted therapy
  • Slightly more affordable

Cons

  • Not always with a fully licensed therapist

“Dr. Viridiana Ortiz is so amazing. She took the time to listen to me and made me feel so beyond comfortable. Staff here is very welcoming and the absolute sweetest. Scheduling is easy and they’re great at communicating with anything you need. Definitely recommend.

I’m really glad I found this mental health center

“I’m really glad I found this mental health center. My therapist, Hadya, has been wonderful. She’s insightful and creates a comfortable space. The care here is affordable, which made it possible for me to get the help I needed. I’d definitely recommend this practice to anyone looking for quality mental health support.”

Patients managing long-term mental health conditions often need both medical and psychiatric care. That’s why we had to check out El Paso Family Medicine and Mental Health Clinic when we found out they combined both these services under one roof.

We really appreciate that they take on conditions that many general mental health clinics refer out. These include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and more.

Many ADHD patients we spoke with praised the clinic’s focus on real-life functioning. The treatment plans reportedly emphasize academic performance, workplace productivity, and daily organization rather than just relying on symptom checklists.

Every appointment begins with a comprehensive evaluation, so the team understands the full picture before recommending anything.

Care plans can include counseling, medication management, and ongoing monitoring. Patients we spoke with appreciated that nobody rushed them into a prescription on the first visit.

The one consistent drawback, though, is telehealth. While they offer telehealth appointments, their scheduling is not consistent. People we interviewed complained about last minute cancellations.

Pros

  • Medical and psychiatric care in one place
  • Everything from OCD to ADHD
  • Comprehensive evaluation
  • Medication management
  • Lifestyle guidance
  • Ongoing monitoring

Cons

  • Not consistent telehealth

We found La Mente Behavioral Health to be a reliable option for patients seeking advanced psychiatric treatments. They really go beyond traditional talk therapy by offering several innovative treatment options.

One example of this is Spravato, an FDA-approved esketamine treatment designed for depression that hasn’t improved with standard antidepressants.

They also provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or TMS. This is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate mood-regulating areas of the brain.

Another feature that stood out to us during our evaluation was their BrainView system. They use EEG technology to measure brain activity and get objective data about the patient’s neurological function.

We found this invaluable since it eliminates the need to rely solely on patient self-reporting, which sometimes doesn’t provide the whole picture.

For PTSD patients, especially, seeing their brain activity measured offers something talk therapy often cannot. Many we interviewed told us it gave them concrete validation of how trauma physically affects the brain.

The one caveat is that the volume of services can feel overwhelming for those who prefer a smaller, focused practice.

Pros

  • Spravato & TMS
  • Brainview system
  • 2 El Paso locations
  • Telehealth available
  • On-site Genoa pharmacy
  • Child and senior therapy

Cons

  • Can be overwhelming

Sara Flowers has been amazing

“This was my first and second experience so far for my mental health and Sara Flowers has been amazing. I’m so glad I took this step and found someone that is understanding and caring. I just wish she could be my therapist to talk, but the help I’ve received so far from her are steps forward in the right direction. Thank you Miss Flowers! 🙏🏽 (5 stars if she ever becomes my therapist haha)”

Highly recommended for your mental health needs

“My daughter and I love going to La Mente. So I love the way they greet me in front desk. I’ve never had bad experiences and they’ve help me with my appointments and the way they work with my schedule is awesome. One of the girls in the front desk by the name of Jessica R, always gives our priorities first and the way she’s always smiling is a given. Highly recommended for your mental health needs . 💯”

Freedom Behavioral Health Solutions’ multidisciplinary clinical team is hard to ignore when looking for the best mental health clinics in El Paso. They have psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychologists providing care to each patient.

They also have care coordinators who handle insurance navigation and scheduling, removing one of the more frustrating barriers to consistent care.

When it comes to therapy, their approach leans heavily on CBT and DBT. These two evidence-based approaches address everything from unhelpful thought patterns to emotional regulation and trauma recovery, so many have found them effective.

We also like that they provide additional treatment paths for patients who haven’t seen enough progress with medication alone. They also offer Spravato and Deep TMS.

Deep TMS targets deeper brain regions than standard TMS. That’s probably why some patients we spoke with reported noticeable improvements within weeks of starting treatment.

That said, Freedom’s services are geared primarily to adults. Families looking for child or adolescent services should look elsewhere on this list.

Pros

  • Depression, anxiety and trauma
  • Full care team
  • Helps with insurance
  • CBT and DBT approach
  • Spravato
  • Deep TMS available

Cons

  • Not best for kids or teens

Definitely check this mental health clinic!

“Since the moment you walk in, the staff will greet you very nice and kindly. I really recommend this place; they explained me in detail about dTMS treatment and other services they offer which is very helpful 🫶🏻 they have different options for payment depending on your insurance, just talk to them and find out what is the coverage of your insurance plan for this kind of service. I loved getting my treatment here, it really helped me with my anxiety problems. Definitely check this mental health clinic! 🌸”

it’s always a pleasure working with her, Peter, and Serenity

“I’ve been fortunate enough to reconnect with Alynna Manriquez-Sikes to continue my journey and have had several appointments with her this year. Her tact is unmatched, she is empathetic, highly knowledgeable, and SO incredibly easy to talk to. At my initial intake appointment, she listened to all of my concerns, took them into consideration, and walked me through her thought process to find the right medication for my conditions. (Spoiler Alert: She nailed it!) Mental health is difficult to tackle and it can be intimidating to start the healing process, but I’m so thankful I have Alynna and her team in my corner; it’s always a pleasure working with her, Peter, and Serenity. Cannot recommend them enough! ❤️”

Calming Spaces Mental Health picked that name for a reason. The space is built with soft lighting, and neutral colors. Patients we spoke to with anxiety, and sensory sensitivities said they felt calm just sitting in the waiting room.

People we interviewed also appreciated how thorough the psychiatric evaluations were. The doctors did not just hand over a prescription and move on. They walked patients through medication management step by step and made sure everything made sense.

Those dealing with depression and ADHD said the behavioral health team made them feel supported rather than just diagnosed. The staff gives patients helpful strategies on coping with overstimulation, anxieties and more.

For anyone across Texas who cannot make it in person, telepsychiatry is available. Patients we interviewed appreciated the scheduling flexibility of their Telehealth appointments.

The only con? TMS and ketamine therapy are not available here. For those specific needs another psychiatric clinic in El Paso would be better.

Pros

  • Sensory-friendly design
  • ADHD, anxiety and depression
  • Relaxed atmosphere
  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Medication management
  • Telepsychistry across Texas

Cons

  • No TMS
  • No ketamine-assisted therapy

I’ve had such a positive experience

“I’ve had such a positive experience with Roger Diaz and his staff. They are compassionate, attentive, and truly take the time to listen and understand. I’ve felt supported every step of the way, and their guidance has made a real difference in my mental health journey. Highly recommend to anyone seeking thoughtful, professional care.”

Roger has worked wonderfully with my daughter

“Roger has worked wonderfully with my daughter. He listens, most importantly, and is understanding of her needs. He makes her feel comfortable and encourages her to open up about her issues to better understand how her medication is working. Roger has brought a sense of ease to our worrying about how our daughter’s mental health is handled. Highly recommended working with him!”
