Let me let you in on a little childhood memory: I was bad at biking. I know, I was like one of those kids in the movies who constantly scraped his knees falling off in his yard. I remember begging my parents for one, but unlike the movies, I never got back on.

In hindsight, I wish I had tried harder! Cycling is such a good way to get some exercise and as a mode of transport. It’s free cardio and strength training that gets you from place to place, all without gas money? What’s not to love?

Good news: I’ve recently made the decision of picking cycling back up, but I’m too big for my childhood bike now. Luckily, I’ve got friends in the scene who were pretty happy to take me around the many bike shops in El Paso! Ready to ride with us?

How much does it cost to buy from a bike shop in El Paso?

Getting yourself a new bike at a bike shop in El Paso can cost you anywhere from $250 to $9000, depending on the type of bike as well as any accessories you may add onto the frame.

If you’ve looked into picking up a bicycle for yourself at all here in El Paso, there’s a high chance you’ve already been pointed to Trek Bikes. With the shop being such a hotspot for new and old bikers alike, we couldn’t resist swinging by for a visit!

The first thing that caught our attention was their showroom, which we thankfully didn’t have a hard time finding. It was also refreshingly easy to browse there, with their bikes all neatly sorted by their types and sizes.

Speaking of types, the range was nothing to sniff at! Trek Bikes was home to various bikes and cycling equipment, whether you’re in the market for a mountain bike, a road bike, or even a racing bike.

With such a wide inventory, we considered that it could be intimidating for new cyclists to pick one. Luckily, we got to chat with some regulars at the store who reassured us that the staff’s recommendations for certain bikes were generally pretty reliable!

To add to this, customers also mentioned that you could always get your bikes adjusted according to your height and preferred riding style at the shop as well. These adjustment services were reportedly flexible, accommodating for comfort levels well.

That being said, be prepared to settle in for a wait. We noticed that the store could get pretty busy, resulting in long waiting times to get services or even to make purchases of accessories, gear, and bikes at the shop.

Pros

  • Reliable staff recommendations
  • Good adjustment services for bikes
  • Easy to navigate the showroom

Cons

  • Long service times at store

Talk about a catchy name, and it’s one that locals swear by, too! With a presence in El Paso for two decades and counting, it was no wonder that the Crazy Cat Cyclery came up pretty often when we asked the cycling community of El Paso for their favorite shops.

Right off the jump, we found their bike range pretty varied! While they carried the classic mountain and road bikes for sport cyclists, we were pleased to find hybrid bikes, electric bikes, and even kid bikes in stock.

The team was also very informative, immediately greeting us when we swung by for a visit and helping us walk through their stock. From there, we got to pick up on several details about the bikes they carried and their gear recommendations, too.

Of course, as with any equipment and vehicle, the best way to learn it is to give it a try. Fortunately, the shop offered both bike rental services and test rides, letting customers get a feel for how the bike rides before committing.

That said, we would advise calling ahead to check the availability of your preferred bike model if you can. A few customers at the store mentioned that their stock of bikes tended to fluctuate, and some may need to be ordered in at a later date.

Finally, we do want to highlight the shop’s easy location. The shop was easily visible, with plenty of parking. If you’re not planning to ride your new bike out immediately, you can put it in your car to take home.

Pros

  • Professional and informative team
  • Bike rentals and test rides available
  • Easy location with wide parking

Cons

  • Stock of bikes tends to fluctuate

The staff gave me great advice in advance

“I rented a gravel bike for a few days to join a friend riding cross country. The staff gave me great advice in advance on what to rent and made the pick up and drop off very efficient. Very much appreciated the service and advice.”

As any cyclist would know, getting a brand new bike can be pretty expensive. But if you don’t feel too good about springing for a used bike, cyclists around El Paso were happy to recommend Border Bicycle as a shop to try checking out first!

What immediately caught our attention was the variety of bikes the shop carried. Their selection of mountain and gravel bikes included Niner, Marin, and Velotric.

All of these came at surprisingly reasonable prices, even compared to other bike shops in El Paso.

While at the store, we got to chat with some regulars and other customers who’d come in for additional tune-ups and bike services. Many were happy with the bike-fitting and assembly services in particular, noting they were pretty fast.

This timeliness extended to their response times too, as we came to find out! The team responded promptly to our inquiries, both before and after our visit. This helped us get a grasp on their inventory, services, and even their delivery and pick-up times.

That said, we do have to note that a few regulars mentioned regularly following up with the team on the status of your bike if you order from them. Some reported long wait times to pick up their bikes or have them delivered to their locations.

Pros

  • Reasonable prices for bikes
  • Quick assembly and fitting times
  • Proactive and responsive team

Cons

There’s nothing that can be as energizing as a good cup of joe before a long bike ride, but did you know that you can now get coffee and a new bike at the same spot? Well, at Podium Finish, you can now!

This is a hybrid cafe and bike shop, and it doesn’t slack on either! They had quite a range of bikes and services available, including new bikes and used ones.

We also couldn’t help but notice their riding boutique, which carried a variety of riding gear and accessories. You can easily drop by and browse if you’re in the market to pick up a new helmet, gloves, or even some parts for your bike.

At the cafe, we got to sit down and chat with a couple of cyclists. Many mentioned that the staff’s gear and bike recommendations were pretty reliable! Some even mentioned getting good trail recommendations from the team.

That said, customers mentioned that the services at the bike shop could take quite a while. We’d recommend keeping your schedule free if you’re planning on getting additional adjustments or tune-ups done to your bike.

On the bright side, the whole shop was calm and relaxing enough to make waiting a bit easier! It’s a great place if you’re looking to get a new bike and chat with cyclists over some light snacks and drinks.

  • Wide range of riding gear and accessories
  • Calm and relaxing shop space
  • Good staff recommendations for bikes

Cons

Would you believe us if we told you that you could pick up a new bike at a restaurant? We know. We thought locals were pulling our legs too, at least up until we decided to bite the bullet and pay a visit to La Wheela.

Part caterer, part restaurant, and part bike shop, La Wheela wears quite a lot of hats! Luckily, that didn’t mean they skimped on their offerings. Their bike shop was packed with a wide range of bikes and accessories for cyclists of all ages.

We found their bike pricing pretty competitive compared to other bike shops around town! Even their brand-new stock came at price points we found fairly affordable, with used options as well for customers with tighter budgets.

We also noted that La Wheela carried bike accessories and parts, though we heard from regulars that the durability of some of these could still be improved.

On the bright side, service times at the shop are pretty quick. Some reported being able to easily pop into the restaurant side for a quick meal and come out with their requested adjustments and installations done.

La Wheela also hosts weekly bike events and gatherings. If you’re a new cyclist looking to connect with the community, we’d definitely recommend dropping into one of these rides!

Pros

  • Weekly bike events and gatherings
  • Quick service times
  • Competitive pricing for bikes

Cons

  • Inferior quality of bike parts and accessories

The techs and owner were awesome in facilitating

“I went there looking for a new bike for my daughter who is challenged by height, they found a bike that fit her, added some accessories on the spot and even gifted her a shirt. The techs and owner were awesome in facilitating and not pressuring us.”
